Leeuwin Estate Art Series Cabernet Sauvignon blackcurrants, cherries, dried cranberries and Satsuma plums feature on the nose at the forefront. Bay leaf, cinnamon, cardamon, cedar and clove combine with heightened lavender notes and hints of fresh tobacco. The palate is fine with a mineral thread. It is elegant and delicately layered. Blackcurrant and cherries feature again with a subtle cassis edge. The mid palate has supple flesh with cocoa, coffee bean and cassia leading to a graphite line and powdery tannins.
The “Art Series” represents Leeuwin’s most opulent & ageworthy wines from each vintage. They are identified with paintings commissioned from leading contemporary Australian artists.
18.7/20 – “Intense, with laser-like focus, the powerful fruit has been paired to fine oak and winemaking. Very long, with taut acidity and fine, if prominent tannins. Needs a decade or two in the cellar, or an hour or two in a decanter.” – Barry Weinman, Fine Wine Club
“… a sleek, red-fruited, beauty. It is already in liquid velvet mode with smooth, plummy Cabernet working its magic in the glass. This vintage tastes like they have uprooted the Cabernet vines and dropped them into the Chardonnay vineyards for one vintage only! It is so silky and tempting and this is another wine which echoes the beauty found on its stunning label designed by Helen Eager.” – Matthew Jukes, Matthew Jukes 100 Best Australian Wines 2019/20
“… a classic Western Australian cabernet with dark currant and berry flavours front and centre of both nose and palate with some tobacco leaf notes and an intense core. There is 97% cabernet and 3% malbec. A wine of style and substance. History suggests this well cellar brilliantly.” – Winsor Dobbin, Winsor’s Choice, May 2019
