Vibrant and deeply scented nose of raspberry and red cherry along with intriguing aromas of wet rock and dark spices. The silky palate offers bramble fruit flavours and a moreish mid-palate sweetness that is balanced with fine tannins, great length and a touch of whole bunch spiciness on the finish.

September 2015 welcomed the beginning of budburst leading to a dry and warm spring. October was 3 degrees above the average temperature and El Niño affected the amount of rain we received. Vine vigour was controlled due to the lack of rainfall with the canopy generous and open. Fruitfulness was up from the previous vintage and flowering and fruit set occurred unhindered. Veraison commenced in early January.

Integrity and appeal are the hallmarks of this great value pinot. It’s built around a core of black cherry and strawberry fruit, layered with a little whole bunch spice and supported by fine, supple tannins. A mix of Mornington Peninsula vineyards makes an impression here, and one of the signatures is a saline/maritime note to the perfume that naturally comes from the variety. Think red cherry, mostly, with other typical notes such as herb, spice, and some leaf and whole bunch derived sap – just a faint sense, finely tuned – adding flavour and texture to a fine, dusting in the finish. – 5 Stars

If I ordered this in a restaurant or fancy bistro, I’d be very happy with my choice: it’s a great drink. A little perfume, raspberry and cherry, whole bunch sap and spice as a seasoning. Medium bodied at most, fresh and juicy, bursting with spiced red fruits and blood orange, a stony feel with fine emery tannin, and a convincing finish. Beauty. 92 points – Gary Walsh
