Craiglee Chardonnay is recognisable for its simple elegance and its purity of flavour which respects the fruit we grow on our river flats. In the winery we ferment and nurture the wine in French oak barrels to maintain the characteristics of the grapes in the paddock We see aromas of stone fruits and passionfruit, creamy oak overtones and pleasing mouthfeel.
“Barrel-fermented in French oak (20% new) Complex barrel ferment aromas start proceedings before the white peach, nectarine and grilled cashew flavours of the palate take control, leading into the final stanza of citrusy / pink grapefruit acidity” 94 points, James Halliday AWC, 2017
While Shiraz rightfully takes the spotlight at Craiglee; their Chardonnay is consistently one of the benchmark examples of the Macedon Ranges region. Famous for its elegance and purity of flavours, this 2015 Craiglee Chardonnay s a beautiful exercise in balance of the quality French oak and pristine, cool-climate fruit flavours.
“94 Points. As ever, an elegant and restrained wine, barrel-fermented, but with the amount of new oak kept to a minimum, allowing the melon, white peach and apple fruit full freedom of expression. Is in its infancy, with years in front of it to build complexity. Drink By: 2030 Date Tasted: 04 Jun 2016 Alcohol: 13.5%” – James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au
