Poonawatta Estate The Cuttings Shiraz has the finesse of the vintage with low key blue berry aroma. The aromas are of sweet fruit low spice and enticing. Very ripe sweet fruit style with soft tannins good depth on the middle palate, smooth, concentrated fruit flavours
The grapes used to craft The Cuttings Shiraz were sourced from the estate’s Cuttings vineyard, which is a dry grown vineyard planted with cuttings taken from the original 1880 Shiraz vines. This delightful, deep purple-red hued Shiraz exudes attractive aromas from its fragrant bouquet, while the luscious palate packs spicy flavours of black and red fruits supported by a natural acid balance. Fine grained tannins, a cool climate finesse, and a great depth and structure culminate in a long, clean and satisfying finish. Suggested food pairings for this vibrant red wine include dark chocolates, barbequed meat, or roasted vegetables with bold sauces.
Poonawatta Estate The 1880 Shiraz is one of the last remaining vineyards of its era, and one of the oldest in Australia. Established in 1880, only 912 vines from the original vineyard remain as a living relic of Australia’s pioneering winemaking heritage.
This is a small, unique and special vineyard of weathered vines producing premium fruit with an exceptional heritage, where each vintage is a reflection of the season, underpinned by a foundation of quality and character formed over 130 years.
