Longview Yakka Shiraz 2010 picked up Gold at this years Sydney wine show and is matured on 40% new French oak and 60% old for 12 months. It shows Plum, red berries, coffee, eucalyptus, and that typical spicy white pepper character that you find in Macclesfield fruit. (It’s no surprise to find out that Shaw and Smith use a vast amount of this Shiraz fruit to make their lauded Shiraz.) It has a rich palate of black fruits and layered tannins with a spicy, long finish.

“If we had a Wine of the Week section at The Wine Front, I’d be putting Longview Yakka Shiraz 2010 up as a nomination. Price, flavour, finesse; all are running in this wine’s favour. It’s juicy and up-front delicious but fine and filligreed through the finish. Flavours of plum, soy, toasty vanilla, (gentle) dried spice and violets. It’s a pretty wine. Medium in weight. Expressive on the nose and lively in the mouth. But it’s more than just a pretty face; it has length, and class. Rated: 93+ Points Alcohol: 14.5% Price: $27 Closure: Screwcap Drink: 2016 – 2022+”- Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
