The Helens Hill Ingram Road Pinot Grigio is a fine example of this popular variety; displaying a clean fresh finish balancing both fruit flavours and acidity from tank fermentation with nuances of rich, quite textural flavours on the mid palate from the barrel fermentation. A great white wine for any season.
Pinot Grigio is a grape variety that is one of the oldest in the world but has only recently started to gain a following in Australia. A long time favorite in Europe, especially Italy, Pinot Grigio has now started to be enjoyed by the Australian drinking public for its unique flavours and delicious textural qualities.
Pinot Grigio can be quite confusing as the styles can vary greatly. Grigio can be picked early and processed entirely in tank which results in a tight, mineral, sometimes flinty wine. At the other end of the spectrum, Gris can be picked late, fermented in barrel with the resultant wine being quite viscous that displays full ripe fruit flavours.
At Helen’s Hill Estate, we combine the best of both methods and produce a Pinot Grigio that is somewhere in the middle. The result is a wine that displays a clean fresh finish balancing both fruit flavours and acidity from tank fermentation with nuances of rich, quite textural flavours on the mid palate from the barrel fermentation. A great white wine for any season.
