The popular Morris Sparkling Shiraz Durif wine is terrific value – an intense robust sparkling red almost like chocolate and fruitcake in a bottle! Served well chilled it makes a great aperitif with richly flavoured canapes.
Rich, Rutherglen Shiraz is ideally suited to producing sparkling ‘Burgundy’ style wines. However, Morris have not traditionally produced one – their first vintage being 1988. The early wines used a heavy dose of Durif making the wines excessively inky, however, the current release uses the grape variety judiciously allowing it to contribute to colour and flavour.
Made from a blend of 3 vintages, 1995, 1996 and 1997, the base has developed considerable complexity. Deep crimson purple colour. Ripe plummy, blackberry and spice aromas which are transformed into a generous mouthfilling palate. The contribution of the Durif is subtle, yet evident, giving the wine added depth. Soft finish. A must for the Christmas Table.
