Torzi Matthews produce two examples of Shiraz from their Mt McKenzie vineyard; Schist Rock and their flagship Frost Dodger Shiraz. Torzi Matthews Frost Dodger Shiraz is the 11th vintage release of their estate single vineyard wine grown in the chilly surrounds of Mt McKenzie in the Eden Valley crafted via their Italian heritage appassimento dry racking. The result is a generous complex shiraz bursting with deep aromatics and flavours.
“Grown at 380 metres. Grapes are dried on racks. 35% whole bunches, wild yeast, ferments open to the air, bottled unfined and unfiltered. 11th release. Routinely a very good wine. Characterised by both the cascading softness of the fruit, and the strong influence of eucalypt/ mint. This wine really does fall over itself in its attempts to keep you happy. It’s lifted, generous, ripe, well-balanced and ever-so-slurpable. It’s also deceptively well structured. Rated: 93 Points Tasted: Jun15 Alcohol: 14.5% Price: $40 Closure: Screwcap” – Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front.
