LongLine Albright Grenache is sourced from 2 separate vineyard parcels, the San Remo vineyard above Onkaparinga Gorge on the Northern edge of McLaren Vale and Bernard and Wayne Smart’s Clarendon vineyard.
“It doesn’t put a foot wrong. This is the kind of release that makes you wonder why oldgvine Australian Grenache isn’t more hotly contested in the marketplace. It offers a mix of red and black cherries, raspberry and earth with an attractive fling of dried herbs. Oak plays next to no role. Moreish. 94 points, James Halliday AWC, 2016
Both dry grown vineyards are in excess of 50 years of age and both provide the density of fruit & structural power that is the Albright style. The San Remo vineyard provides the Albright with power & depth of flavour whilst the Smart Clarendon vineyard parcel, on deep grey sands, provides perfume, dried herbs and spice with underlying complex earth notes.
Hand-picked, 20% whole bunch fermentation and extended skin contact for 4 weeks prior to pressing and matured in seasoned nine & ten year old French oak puncheons for 10 months.
Great with BBQ homemade pork and fennel seed sausages served with radicchio braised with blue cheese.
Enjoy whilst full of vibrant fruit or cellar for 8 + years in appropriate cellar conditions.
