The Cloak Sangiovese is bright, vibrant, full of plump brambly fruits (cherries wild raspberries) and dark chocolate that carry over onto the palate. Lightly spiced plums, black cherries and a hint of leather envelop your senses like a valvet cloak and entice you to take a sip.
The Cloak Sangiovese is soft and fleshy, loaded with cherries and wild raspberries, dark chocolate and earthy undertones. A juicy palate with a velvet underlay and silky tannins, balanced by a long, savoury finish.
Harvested at optimal ripeness in the cool of the night, this fruit was transported to the winery and immediately destemmed into open top and static fermenters. The wine was left on skins for up to two weeks before pressing and racking to French oak for maturation. Each parcel was kept separate until blending to build layers and complexity into the wine.

“Produced by Wine Unplugged. Winemakers are Nina Stocker and Callie Jemmeson. Fruit from the Whorouly vineyard in the Alpine Valley region, planted by Tim and Mark Walpole (of Fighting Gully Road) in 1989.Chocolate nibs, fresh leather gloves, blackberry juice, cherry skin. Juicy and bright. Bounces nicely between deep cherry and brighter raspberry. A little polished and satiny before thoothsome, almost chewy tannins (but no overwork of jaw required). Finishing with bitter cola essence. A sensuous and supple, easy drinking wine to wrap yourself up in.”

“Promoted as “Australia’s home of Italian wine styles”, the beautiful King Valley located up in Victoria’s northeast certainly produces some stunning, and unique wines that definitely express their varietal Italian heritage. The two wines featured below [The Dagger King Valley Pinot Grigio 2016 and The Cloak King Valley Sangiovese 2016] celebrate the inherent Italian winemaking heritage of the King Valley and successfully display true varietal character and expression of the two varieties and styles. Most importantly, they won’t burn a hole in your pocket and will help you enjoy “La Dolce Vita”!
The long ripening season in the King Valley is [the] perfect foil for this variety to accentuate the richness of the cherry, and the perfumed florals of the aromatics. As with most classic varieties, it benefits from low yields, thus this wine shows an impressive depth of earthy, savoury dark fruit and undergrowth character with bright, vibrant cherry fruit notes, structured tannins, spice and balanced acidity. A super offering.”
